Streptocarpus 'Pretty Turtle' is a hybrid cultivar of the African violet relative known as the Cape Primrose or Streptocarpus. Here are some care tips:

 

Light:

- Bright. indirect light is best. An east or north-facing window is ideal.

- Avoid direct sunlight which can scorch the leaves.

- They need more light than African violets.

 

Water:

- Keep the soil evenly moist. but not soggy. Allow the top inch to dry slightly between waterings.

- Use room temperature water and avoid getting water in the crown.

- Increase humidity with a pebble tray if air is very dry.

 

Soil:

- Use a well-draining potting mix made for African violets or gesneriad plants.

- A mix containing perlite. vermiculite and sphagnum moss works well.

 

Temperature: 

- Ideally between 65°F-75°F. Avoid drafts or sudden temperature changes.

- They can tolerate temps down to 50°F at night.

 

Humidity:

- Streptocarpus prefer higher humidity around 50-60%.

- Use a pebble tray or room humidifier if air is very dry.

 

Fertilizer:

- Feed every 2 weeks during spring/summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to 1/4 strength.

- Don't fertilize in winter.

 

The 'Pretty Turtle' has ruffled. velvety green leaves with deep purple undersides. The flowers are lavender with purple speckling. Provide the right light and humidity for this special houseplant.
